Dav and I are quite an avid reader. We always have some form of reader with us when we’re commuting to work or going on holiday. We have collected quite a lot of physical books over the years and that slowly transform into digital books when Kindle was introduced. I’m even on my second Kindle (due to an accident – screen cracked).
So needless to say we spent quite a lot of money on this hobby. When a friend told us about her frequent visits to the local library I thought it was quite an interesting thing to do especially if it helps reduced our monthly expenses. But at that time, our local library was quite a distance away so we never did make it.
Now after moving to the current place we discovered the local library is only 5 mins walk away. So last weekend we decided to check it out and we were quite surprised by the services available.
So besides the usual borrowing of books, they also provide the following:
- audio books
- music CDs
- children’s library
- computers for public use with internet access
- free WiFi
- newspapers and magazines
- IT tuition
- adult reading group
- children’s reading group
- faxing and photocopying
- printing and scanning
- reference room
I was so excited, we ended up borrowing 2 DVDs (minimal cost and fairly new titles too!) and a few books. I definitely want to try to borrow books rather than buying ebooks.
Grocery shopping in Kingston Market is always either a hit or a miss. Sometimes we get good bargains with fresh food, sometimes, it is just a disappointment.
This week Dav found a gem! A box of strawberries for £3.50 ! These of course are not local. I think it’s imported from Spain.
With so much strawberries and only a few days to eat them, I decided to ‘bake’ a cheesecake. Cheesecake is also Dav’s favourite cake. 🙂
I used an American no-bake receipt which was convenient. However I had some issue with the measurement (pounds and cups) as well as ingredients (graham crackers?). Luckily the result was amazing.
Sometimes I get so busy that I’m not aware that my breathing is shallow. Also true when I’m exercising. I love how this bracelet will be my constant reminder. Even if you’re not doing anything, taking a deep breath actually helps to calm me down.
Bracelet is by Estella Bartlett.
Loving the simple Rachael Allen’s recipe.

Who would have thought I will be working for the same company for 10 years! This is probably more common in my parent’s generation….
Time flies when you’re having fun ??
Let’s see how long I’ll last… lol
I feel so loved when a casual chat about fav food turns into a surprised Valentine’s lunch!
As per previous year, we are not taking any days off or holiday during Chinese New Year. However I’m missing my family even more this year. Not sure if it’s because I haven’t seen my parents for more than 1 year now.
Anyway, Dav decided to make bak kwa (dried meat) at home and it actually turn out quite nice. Not 100% like the original we get back in Malaysia but it does satisfy our cravings.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone
Gong Xi Fatt Chai!
