Réunion Island, a French department in the Indian Ocean, is known for its volcanic, rainforested interior, coral reefs and beaches. Its most iconic landmark is Piton de la Fournaise, a climbable active volcano. The island is located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar and southwest of Mauritius.
Of course we knew nothing about this island until we met Cecile 10 years ago! Well, we knew that she’s French but didn’t know France has colonised lots of islands all around the world.
After hearing lots of stories and seeing lots of beautiful pictures of the island, we finally followed her home in Easter and had a wonder 2 weeks discovering the island.
How to get there? Well, you can either fly direct from Paris or you can transit via Madagascar. We took the most convenient route (i.e. via Paris). That means short flight from London City Airport to Orly, Paris, then wait for a few hours to take the 12hrs overnight flight toRéunion.
