Accommodation

In order to minimise our holiday costs, we decided to stay in backpackers hostel as much as we can unless there is none in the town we’re visiting, provided the area is safe. So here’s a listing of the places we stayed in and our comments/recommendations if you are planning a visit.

1. Cape Town Backpackers

Websitehttp://www.capetownbackpackers.com/

Location: City Bowl

No of nights: 2

Pros:

  • Located in the city centre, close to all main attractions. Can walk up to Table Mountain and V&A Waterfront.
  • Cheap and clean.
  • Friendly management.
  • Secure parking is available.
Cons:
  • Noisy as it seems to be a party hostel. Loud music is played in the pub until after midnight. Hence if you’re a light sleeper like me, you might find this hostel a tad too noisy to get some sleep.

Our verdict: Highly recommended.

2. Ravenna Mountain Retreat

Websitehttp://www.ravenna.co.za/

Location: 15 mins from Montagu

No of nights: 1

Pros:

  • Quiet.
  • Lots of pet dogs to play with.
  • Amazing mountain views.

Cons:

  • Too quiet. We were the only visitor in the whole accommodation!
  • In the middle of nowhere. Nearest town is 20km away.
  • Hence, if you booked a self catering hostel, make sure you have food prepared. They also cater for breakfast & dinner but this must be arranged in advance.

Our verdict: Indifferent. Dav thinks this place is scary because we were the only visitor that day hence he would not recommend it to anyone. I’m impartial.

While in Kruger, we stayed in multiple restcamps. All of them have the same basic facilities. They only differ in terms of size and the type of accommodations. Instead of writing about each of them, I would recommend you go through the Kruger National Park website to find out more. 🙂
