We went to Crosby Coastal Park for a walk after brunch on Christmas Day. It is such a lovely beach with superb view and sculptures.
The beach has 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along the 3 kms of the foreshore, stretching almost 1 km out to sea. The spectacular figures are made by Angel of the North artist Antony Gormley. The artwork is called ‘Another Place’. The Another Place figures – each one weighing 650 kilos – are made from casts of the artist’s own body standing on the beach, all of them looking out to sea, staring at the horizon in silent expectation.
From afar the figures looks like real human. During high tide, a few of them are half submerged in the water. Quite scary if you didnt know that it’s only a sculpture.
Definitely worth a visit, especially to take some pictures. Visit my Flickr page to see more photographs taken at the park.
